How can I reformat a WD 400GB My Book hard drive from MS-DOS to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format?
This hard drive came out of the box formatted for MS-DOS File System. My Mac G5 can read it, but I discovered that in that format I could not recover data in the event of a crash. I want to reformat the drive to the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Every time I try to use the Disk Utility program to reformat (and/or partition) this drive it gives me the following failed error message;
“Partition failed with the error: Could not unmount disk”
I have tried unsuccessfully to “unmount” the drive and to partition it to smaller partitions (less than 128GB). Nothing helps. I am lost and need help!
You need to boot to the MAC CD, that way the drive isn’t active and run the disk utility from the CD instead of from the hard drive.
