Can I recover my Windows Old Folder?

Hello everyone, I have a serious, serious problem. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and it saved all of my old files into my Windows.old folder. Now I figured that I’d backed everything up on my external hard drive, but when I looked for a certain file, it just wasn’t there. It turns out that not everything had been backed up for whatever reason. However I had already deleted my Windows.Old folder so that i could have some much needed hard drive space. Now is there any way in god that I can recover what I need? I know of the program Recuva and it is currently running a scan for me on my computer but just in case that fails to find it, is there any other way? Or do I not have any hope at all? P.S.- When i went to delete it, instead of going to the recycling bin (because of it’s immense file size obviously,) it was instantly deleted instead, if that makes any difference. Please help me, thank you.
