If I use my Windows XP disc to repair widows will it format the drive as well.?

Will it delete everything I have stored on the hard drive or just fix the error? I am getting an “invalid boot.ini file” and was told I need to put in my windows CD and repair it. I have alot stored on that hard drive and need to know if i will loose all my data.

Skip the “repair using recovery console” int the initial install options screen. chose to install windows XP. 5 or 6 screens later, the install will detect the existing XP installation and give you a choice to repair it or reinstall. Chose repair here. It’s a much more comprehensive repair than the recovery console, doesn’t need a recovery disk, and still leaves your files and settings unchanged.
