External Hard Drive Crash Recovery

System Recovery on HP Media Center PC?

I’ve performed a system recovery on my PC because it became unstable, kept freezing, crashing etc. I have all my data backed up on an external HD. However, it appears that all my data is still somewhere on the HD because when i look at my hard drive, it’s still 87% full. I would like to access it somehow, but it does not appear in My Documents where it was originally. Can someone provide some guidance?

So you did a System Recovery – Software only? If so, the Data should be accessable directly thru My Computer > C:\

The files may still be on the HD but not in the spots you remember. Your Programs File folder, may have the old programs you need to reinstalled.

The My Documents folder could have a My Documents(2)

If you have all this data on a backup drive / CD, make sure you can access all those. And redo the System Recovery – FULL(or something like that) – should completely wipe the HD and restore it back to factory condition.

But it sounds like you were originally infected. Had you come in with that problem it would have been easier to address.
