I have a Virus shimshortcut.js that I can’t beat.?
I had WinXP. It deleted task manager and I am assuming explorer.exe as well since nothing happens after log in. you see the background but the start bar and icons never show up. While using the recovery disc, it re-installed norton and it came up with shimshortcut.js
It has no power to clear it. I would really like to save the data and not reformat the drive. How can I find that file without using windows? Some sort of bootable prompt?
I don’t think anyone understands that there is no OS really. Without tastmgr.exe and explorer.exe there is no way for me to control Windows.
So far everyone is just doing their clipboard answers here.
If it is deleted, that does not me it will work in safe mode. Gone is Gone
If no one can answer the question, I’ll award 10 pts to the first person to say “you are totally screwed and reformat your drive”
go into safemode with networking by booting up or rebooting your machine and at the same time tapping the F8 key then choose safemode with networking go to safety.live.com that is microsoft’s online scanner there are three scans available use all three this will remove virus/malware/spyware and clean your registry and tell you if you need to defragment your machine.
